Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar with its meaning. It is often believed that it's an island to the west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was a young woman living in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. When she was a child, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden growth spurt made it impossible. A Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. As I grew older than my male friends, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was a suggestion by her drama teacher. The teacher suggested she try getting a part in the the school's annual show. She was chosen to play the principal part of Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. She was given the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program and graduated from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Since then, she's appeared in over 60 productions both smaller and large. The most notable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast for Season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
